Photographs from 'The Falcon' 1984

Photographs from The Falcon 1984

The opening article was, appropriately, about Falconry, preceded by a full page photograph of Ron Hartley's beautiful Peregrine Falcon, Whiz. The Falconry Club was included amongst the Clubs and Societies section later in the magazine, where a Lanner Falcon was shown. (As every F.O.B should know, the College badge was designed by Jill Turner and was based on a Lanner Falcon.)

The Prefects for 1983.

The construction of the new Dining Hall had been completed and it was already in use at the start of 1984.

The Mikado was produced by Ron Reeve-Johnson and the excellent Tony Hawgood (Upper Sixth) took the leading tenor role of Nanki-poo.  The rest of the big parts were taken by members of staff.

The Teams photographs followed as seen below.

The Falconry Club had grown in size and importance under Ron Hartley.

The Expedition to the Okavango Delta was led by John Stakesby Lewis, Tony Davey and Ron Reeve-Johnson.

The caption on the dramatic photograph above was 'Stuck Again'. This was in the Kiri River, and the account of the Expedition in the magazine records upwards of thirty occasions when they were stuck in sand, mud or water.

When not involved in Expedition business, the boys enjoyed fishing as relaxation.

On 3rd January, 1984, there was a gathering of four F.O.B.s along with other ex-Zimbabweans in Hong Kong. The Old Falcons were Robert King (1957), Martin Hall (1959), Barry Wilson (1961) and Kit Cummings (1959), and they met in Barry's home.

Finally, under the heading News of Former Staff, Hugh and Edna Cole's diamond wedding anniversary was recorded.
